We are looking forward to welcoming you to All Wales Scout Camp 2024. We’re sure you have lots of questions about the weekend so we’ve answered them all here.
If there’s anything else you’d like to know, please email us on admin@scoutscymru.org.uk and we’ll get back to your query as soon as we can.
Risk assessment is an ongoing process, the event maintains a central risk register, and there are over 100 activities many of which are provided by external contractors who provide risk management documentation in a wide variety of formats, such as ADIPS certifications. Much of it relates to how they operate internally, are not relevant to leaders, and commercially sensitive in nature. Due to this, we are not able to publish this online or make it available to groups in advance. Each activity lead will have a printed copy available throughout the event. Leaders are welcome to visit the Nerd Centre and inspect the safety file during the event.
The 2024 All Wales Scout Camp takes place from 5pm Friday 14 to 3pm Sunday 16 June.
It will once again be held at the Royal Welsh Showground, Builth Wells, LD2 3SY.
Arrivals are from 5pm. No admittance after 9.30pm.
You will need to let the volunteers at the Admin building (this will be in the Awards building on site) know in advance of any late arrivals and ensure you inform the team when they are on site.
If someone needs to leave early, please also let the Admin team know.
For health and safety reasons, organisers must know exactly how many people are on site at all times.
Young people being dropped off by parents/guardians should head to the Drop Off Zone. We will have staff on site to direct you this area. There will also be signs on the roads leading into camp to help you with directions For more details, please check the travel plan, which you can find here.
All campsites run along the avenues and the letter of your campsite will indicate the avenue which it is upon. Your site number follows this letter and the numbers run 1 to … from east to west along each avenue.
You will find a small wooden stake driven in at the midpoint of your site frontage. There will be a sign stapled to this stake that gives the site reference number and the name of the troop/troops on this site. The corners of your site, front and rear, will be marked on the floor with semi-permanent marker paint with a L or T shaped depending on whether you have further sites that are contiguous to yours. Please ensure that your tentage is within these boundaries.
Any queries please contact a member of site services team who will be out and about around the site and able to help.
Cars and small vans/minibuses can drive directly to the pitches to unload gear. All vehicles must be in the car park by 9:30pm and remain there all weekend.
We recommend leaders meet young people at the designated arrival spot, walk them down, and transport their kit in the leaders’ cars, if necessary.
Pitches are generous in size and allocated according to group numbers. Most groups will have a number of patrol tents, leader tents, space for a dining shelter and outdoor cooking equipment. If you wish to camp next to a specific group you will need to have noted this in your original booking.
Tents, sleeping bags, roll mats or camp beds, and cooking equipment (no coal BBQs or campfires). Most groups bring a dining shelter to cook in, and you may also like to bring camp tables and chairs.
We also recommend clothes for cold and wet weather, warm clothes to sleep in, clothing for wet weather, spare footwear, camp blankets.
We also recommend fancy dress for the UV disco on the Saturday night – bright clothing, glow paints, face paints tattoos (we ask groups not to bring disposable glow sticks as we are discouraging the use of single use plastic on site).
You’ll also need your kit for the pushcart competition if you are taking part. There’s more information on this below.
Each unit will be responsible for their own food for the weekend. You will need to factor in an evening meal for the Friday; breakfast, lunch and dinner for the Saturday; breakfast and lunch for the Sunday; and snacks and treats for the weekend. The site has access to running water, but you may also wish to bring juice, squash, tea and coffee, hot chocolate and so on.
No, there are no fridges on site. We recommend bringing cool boxes to keep your food cold.
There is a Co-op Food in Builth Wells. This is a 5 minute drive away.
No, this is not something we are able to provide.
Campervans must remain in the car park, along with all other vehicles. If leaders are sleeping in camper vans, please ensure your Scouts still have the necessary ratios of leaders to young people and that the nights away permit holder remains with the young people at all times.
Trailers must be kept in the carpark so please bring adequate storage solutions for your pitch.
Toilet facilities are available on site throughout the weekend, both on the camping ground and at the activity zones. One toilet block contains showers (however there are plenty of showers in there).
We have Scout Med on site which will be based in the HSBC building so please head there for any first aid needed during the event. Groups are expected to provide basic level of first aid. However if you need any advice or a second opinion the Scout Med team are always available to offer support during the event, 24/7.
We are also offering the chance for adult leaders to complete their module 10b (first aid) if they need to complete it. you will need to sign up here.
No, we don’t require all adults to have first aid, but we do expect groups to have trained first aiders who can provide a basic level of first aid.
All Wales is a sustainable camp, and we try our very hardest with our waste management whilst on site. Please see attached a handy guide to want goes in each bag. Don’t worry, we’ll have these posted all over site and in your welcome pack for you to remember. It’s down to each group to sort out their own rubbish.
As with any Scout camp, please consider camping, cooking, arrivals, departures, free time, wet and cold weather, hot weather/sun burn, managing overnight (for example Scouts going to toilet, sleepwalkers, getting over-excited etc).
All activities run by AWSC are risk assessed by AWSC. However, you will need to consider individual needs for your group activities in relation to these activities. For example, consider what you will do if a young person may become overstimulated by some of the activities or may need additional support.
You can get advice on planning risk assessments on The Scout Association website here.
We’re Scouts! We will carry on in all but the most extreme weather conditions. Be prepared for all weathers and bring appropriate clothing, waterproofs, sun hats and sun cream etc. That said, the majority of the activities are under cover. In extreme weather conditions, some outdoor activities may be cancelled for health and safety reasons.
Please note that no open fires/campfires are allowed anywhere on the site. Cooking must be done on gas stoves. No barbecues are allowed, as these are open flames.
We want All Wales Scout Camp to be as inclusive as possible and have put measures in place to ensure everyone feels welcome. If you require a time out from the zone please make your way to the check in area (nerd centre) where you’ll find a quiet/chill out zone for you.
All attendees will be issued with a wrist band which contains a unique number so that everyone can be identified by the event organisers. Please remind your Scouts to approach a member of AWSC staff (they’ll be in a red hi-vis) if they get lost and we will ensure they are reunited with their group.
Everyone who attends the All Wales Scout Camp will receive an exclusive necker as a reminder of a memorable weekend. This is inclusive in payment costs and will be distributed when you check in, along with your welcome pack.
You are now able to pre-order your 2024 All Wales Scout Camp badges on the booking system. Go into your booking and scroll towards the bottom where you’ll be able to add the number of badges you’d like to order. Badges are £1 each and will be given to you on your arrival at camp. These won’t be on general sale at the event.
Official clothing and merchandise to celebrate All Wales Scout Camp has now closed.
All Wales Scout Camp is striving be a sustainable event and to promote a healthy lifestyle. Therefore, there will be no tuck shop or merchandise available at the event. It is also a cash-free site so young people won’t need to bring any money with them.
We invite everyone to join the opening ceremony at 9am on the Saturday morning before the activity zones open. This is a chance for 1,500 Scouts and their leaders to come together to celebrate All Wales Scout Camp 2024.
Each Scout group will have the opportunity to visit all five activity zones on the Saturday, spending around two and half hours in each area, with up to 30 activities per zone. On the Sunday, Scouts will have free rein to re-visit their favourites.
All five zones are themed to tie in with the Scouting challenge badges, so it’s a good chance to tick off a few requirements to help your Scouts fill those shirts with new badges.
We’ll let you know exactly what to expect from each zone closer to the time. Please keep an eye out on the All Wales Scout Camp social media channels for some of the headline activities. We’ll also send a list out of all the activities per zone after the event so you’re able to tick them off any badges your Scouts are working towards.
Yes. Saturday will see the push cart competition from 7pm-8pm followed by a UV disco from 8pm-10pm. We would love to see you all in bright and colourful clothing, fancy dress, glow paints, face paints, ready to dance the night away. The event will end with the Closing Celebration on Sunday at 2pm. This is the largest gathering of Scouts in Wales and will celebrate the events of the weekend and say, “See you next time!” to All Wales Scout Camp.
This ceremony will last around 30 to 45 minutes. No vehicles will be allowed onto the site until after the ceremony has finished. Loading up can commence when vehicles are allowed back on site.
If your Scouts are being picked up by parents, cars will only be able to access the car park, and Scouts will be directed there once their parents have arrived to pick them up. There will be signage for parents to know where to go.
