Volunteer and change your life

Make friends, meet new people, try new things and be challenged.

We’re looking for volunteers all over Wales to come and help us create amazing opportunities and memories for young people that will last a lifetime. Whatever your background, identity or ability, there’s a volunteer spot with your name on it.

In Scouting, we celebrate difference, everyone’s welcome! We are looking for skills, from tea making and minibus driving to activity planning, fundraising and gardening. But also, things like financial planning, strategy development and helping us reach out to new communities.

Find out how you can get outdoors, get stuck in and positively impact your community.

Volunteer with us

Section team

Would you like to get involved in local meetings or activities?

Volunteers in our section teams attend weekly meetings and help young people develop and grow. The roles are varied and include planning and organising trips or offering administrative support. We are always looking for volunteers to join our 903 local units from Squirrels to Explorers right across Wales. We have young people right now waiting to learn skills for life – could you be the next person to lead the adventure in your community? We’d love to hear from you, get in touch today.

Group leadership team

Could you manage the logistics and well-being of local section teams?

Group leaders are often awesome people managers, looking after the people volunteering in local units. They manage the personal development and finances of local Squirrel, Beaver, Cub, Scout and Explorer groups. Group leaders also take care of enquiries about joining a unit and meeting place maintenance. Some group leaders are spreadsheet masters, others are DIY dynamos! These volunteers are the backup and support for the section teams in our communities. Do you have the skills to support your local leaders? If it sounds interesting, get in touch today.

Area/District teams

Do you have the skills to develop and grow our Scouting communities?

Local Scouting groups are called sections or units. Sections are all grouped into areas or districts, roughly speaking these are organised by county. Area volunteer teams lead the programme, learning and development across their patch. They often bring the skills learnt in their professional life with them. Area volunteers promote and develop the core values of ScoutsCymru – inclusivity, safety and skills for life. Do you have expertise in youth advocacy, fundraising, professional development, marketing, finance, or recruitment? If you’d like to share your skills with us, please contact our team at vacancies@scoutscymru.org.uk

Trustee boards

Do you have the experience to oversee the safe and legal running of Scouting?

Trustees are volunteers who have overall responsibility for strategy, performance and assurance across their local groups, Areas/Districts or ScoutsCymru. They usually have a passion for supporting young people’s journey from the point of view of safety and legality. We need trustees with high levels of knowledge in safeguarding, health and safety, equality, diversity, inclusion, fundraising and digital. Are you well-qualified to inspire the next generation of young people in Scouts to be the best they can be? Please email vacancies@scoutscymru.org.uk to arrange an informal conversation with one of our team.

Volunteer Voices

Scouting across Wales wouldn’t be possible without dedicated volunteers. From the Pembrokeshire coast to the capital Cardiff and the mountains of Snowdon to centre of Wrexham, our volunteers are scaling mountains, leading teams, organising games, driving buses and managing accounts – everything needed to keep more than 14,000 young people safe and entertained each week.

The whole Scouting model depends on motivated individuals being prepared to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in.

Through Volunteer Voices, we want you to meet some of these inspirational individuals making a significant impact across Wales.
