From a logistical perspective getting everyone on to camp on Friday and away from camp on Sunday safely is a major task in which we need the cooperation of everyone attending camp or those just visiting.
So, please make sure that everyone from your Troop or District is aware of how traffic will be managed at this year’s event. That must include any parents or relatives who are either dropping off or picking up Scouts.
For those Troops or Districts arriving by coach, the instruction is slightly different and is covered at the end of this note.
We are likely to have upwards of two thousand people arriving at the camp over the course of Friday evening and for the safety of all it is important that all vehicle drivers are aware of the traffic management that will be in place.
• All traffic will arrive and enter the showground via Entrance C. This entrance will be sign-posted from the A470 towards Rhayader.
• On entering the show ground, we would request all traffic to observe a 5 MPH speed limit and place their hazard warning lights on.
• As usual we will be operating a strict one-way traffic flow system.
• All traffic (except coaches) will be directed along Avenue M and loop back around the cattle ring via Avenue L and K to the carpark at the front of the South Glamorgan Building.
• At this point all Troops should register and book in at the main reception in the International Pavilion (The Nerd Centre for those regular AWSC attendees).
• You must book in before proceeding onto the main campsite.
• After registering all traffic will proceed down the hill to the main site, at this point you will have the location of your camp site and you simply follow the signposted one-way system to that site.
• All sites will be accessed from the avenue (road) that lies along its northern boundary.
• All vehicles will exit the showground by following the signposted one-way system and the North entrance onto the A483 via the main car park.
• All vehicles that are staying the weekend must be removed from the site and parked up in the main site car park at Entrance D by 9:30 p.m. (Over the weekend the gates to this carpark will be locked and car parked patrolled regularly by members of the site-services crew.)
• All coaches will enter the site via Entrance C and will be met by a member of staff in front of the sheep shearing pavilion.
• The coach will be directed to a holding bay along Avenue N, the lead volunteer on the coach will then register and book in at the International Pavilion (Nerd Centre).
• Following this the coach will proceed down to the main site and park up at the Coach Bay on Avenue E near the HSBC Building. (Site services temporary info and operations point will be found here for any queries).
• All coaches will disembark and unload here. Site Services vehicles will transport any camp equipment to the site/sites, but personal kit will be expected to be carried to site.
• Following disembarkation and unloading coaches will exit the site continuing along avenue E and turn left onto Automotive Avenue to exit the site onto the A483 via entrance D and main carpark.
• Any coaches staying the weekend will be parked up in this carpark along with all other vehicles remaining on site.
All vehicles must enter and exit the site on Sunday via the North Entrance off the A483 to Llandrindod. They will be directed to park up in the car park and enter the site on foot to meet the Scouts they are taking home.
Coaches similarly will enter and park up here. Site Services crew will be in radio contact to inform the various Troops and Districts of their transport’s arrival. As with Friday night arrivals, site services vehicles will be on hand to transport camping equipment to the coach park. (Site Services will again be found and operating from the HSBC building).
These measures are being adopted for the safety of all and reduce the number of vehicular movements around the site at a time when tired campers may be a little less aware of that going on around them.
• As in previous years, site services will provide access to the site for striking camp after the start of the morning activity sessions.
• The one-way traffic flow will be reversed for traffic coming from the main car park onto site.
• Any vehicles coming off site during this time will follow the reversed one-way system on Avenues A, B, C, D, F, G, and H.
• All traffic will then exit the site via Avenue E and turning left onto Automotive Avenue and north gate onto A483.
