Brand new event for Explorers in Wales

Calling all Explorers!  Are you looking for an exciting, action packed weekend? Join us in Bannau Brycheiniog for Awesome 2025.

For £70 a person you’ll get a weekend full of adventure, including all activities and catering.

Expect adventure, activity, fun and friendship with a chance to take part in everything from rock climbing, underground caving and forest mountain biking to canoeing, archery and axe throwing, and lots more. The weekend has been created to fit in with the Explorers programme, meaning you’ll get to tick off a few badge requirements too.

We’ll be making the most of the beautiful location with activities taking place around the Bannau Brycheiniog as well as on site. There’s no need to cook or bring extra equipment in your (already full) minibus. All you’ll need is your Explorers and enough tents for the weekend.

Bookings go live on Sunday 18 January 2025 and we’d love to see you there.

Volunteer to help run Awesome

To make this All Wales Explorer camp the Awesome experience we want it to be, we’re going to need a good team of volunteers to help make it happen. If you would like to volunteer at Awesome ‘25, use the form to express your interest. We’ll be back in touch with a list of roles to apply for at a later date so leave us your contact information. We ask our volunteers to pay £10 for the weekend, which covers expenses for food, an exclusive Awesome necker and blanket badge, and pitch fees for camping.

Costs for Awesome 2025

Awesome ‘25 will cost £70 per Explorer, £30 per leader, and £10 for members of the volunteer crew. Costs include all meals, all activities and an exclusive Awesome ’25 necker and blanket badge.

Bookings open Sunday 19 January, 12pm. Deposit required of £20 per Explorer and £10 per leader.
Leaders, you will need to factor your own unit costs into the price you give your Explorers, including any transport costs for travelling to and from the venue.

We recommend groups and districts get in touch to share travel and associated costs.
Minimum age to attend is 14 due to the nature of the event and health and safety for the activities.

Awesome ’25 is a fully-catered event, meaning all your meals will be provided for you. We are happy to cater to all dietary requirements but ask that you let us know about these beforehand and discuss any concerns with us in plenty of time before the event.

An inclusive event

Explore ‘25 welcomes all Explorers in Wales. The event will be as inclusive as possible and we have worked hard behind the scenes to ensure everyone feels welcome.

We have disabled parking facilities available and the site is fully accessible with accessible toilets. We have quiet spaces available for anyone who may need time away from the busy activity zones, a quiet space for anyone wishing to pray or take time for personal reflection.

There are no height or age restrictions on any of the activities for anyone age 14 and above. Although not all activities may be suitable for everyone, we will adapt activities wherever we can. We’d love to chat to you in more detail about any specific needs so we can plan this in advance.

How to book – please read this information carefully

Bookings will open on Sunday 19 January 2025 at 12pm via our online booking platform.

One leader will need to book for their whole group via the booking link, which will go live at 12pm. Bookings close on Sunday 13 April 2025, or sooner, if the event sells out. If the event sells out, you can join the Awesome ‘25 waiting list and we will let you know if a space becomes available for your group.
You will need to know how many Explorers and leaders you would like to book for when booking.

You will need to pay a deposit of £20 per Explorer and £10 per leader to confirm your booking – ideally at the same time as booking but if this is not possible within two weeks maximum – but won’t need to pay in full until closer to the event. Please note that your places are not guaranteed until we receive the deposit.
If a deposit isn’t paid within two weeks of booking, a group could lose their place and it could be offered to groups on our waiting list.

The balance is due by Sunday 13 April 2025 at the latest. You may adjust your numbers up until this date but please note that all deposits are non-refundable and you will not be able to use deposits of surplus places to pay off your remaining balance.

We are expecting a lot of interest in this event and it is likely to sell out so we suggest groups use the coming weeks to confirm numbers and logistics before bookings open.

If the event sells out, we can add you to the waiting list and will let you know if and when we can accommodate your group.

What to expect from Awesome ‘25

The weekend begins at 5pm on the Friday, with some adventurous activities to get you in the mood for the weekend, and an opening ceremony bringing together Explorers from across Wales. Saturday will be an action-packed day of everything from caving and canoeing to natural rock climbing and forest mountain biking, as Explorers try new things and make new friends from across Wales. We have an evening of entertainment planned – but we won’t be sending you to bed at 10pm. Oh no, many of our activities continue overnight with even more fun and adventure.

Sunday morning will be just as exciting with more activities planned, before everyone comes together at the closing ceremony to celebrate an Awesome weekend. This will also include an opportunity for investitures, with new Explorers invited to make their promise. We’ll then ensure you’re refuelled at lunch time before the event officially closes at 3pm and groups depart the site.

Our full programme will be unveiled nearer to the time, when each Explorer will be invited to book their own activities and design their own weekend of fun, adventure and personal challenge.

What do Explorers need to bring?

We will send out more information at a later date, but all Explorers and leaders will need:

  • tents and camping gear (although you don’t need to bring cooking equipment as the event is fully catered);
  • suitable clothing for a weekend of outdoor and adventurous activities and the unpredictable Welsh weather
  • a drinks bottle
  • waterproof coat and trousers
  • sun hat or cap, and sun cream

Please ensure all items of clothing are labelled – we don’t want to be dealing with bags of left behind clothing with no names on!

All relevant equipment and safety equipment for adventurous activities will be provided. Any personal clothing requirements for specific activities will be shared nearer to the event.

Exclusive Awesome merchandise

We will soon be unveiling our range of official clothing and merchandise to celebrate Awesome ’25. This will need to be preordered before the event and will be posted to you beforehand. To help us meet our sustainability goals, we will not be selling any merchandise at the event.

Everyone who attends Awesome will receive an exclusive necker and blanket badge to celebrate the day, included in booking costs. You will receive this when you check it, along with your Awesome ’25 badges.
