We’re excited to launch Change Makers | Dyfodol Disglair – a brand-new series celebrating the inspirational young people making a difference across the Scouting family in Wales.

We’re kicking things off with Charlotte ‘Lottie’ Dawson – a Beaver Scout from Rhuddlan whose energy, enthusiasm and big-hearted approach to Scouting has already made her a role model to many.

Lottie celebrates national Unsung Heroes Award at Gilwell Park

Six-year-old Charlotte ‘Lottie’ Dawson, a dedicated Beaver Scout from Rhuddlan, has been recognised with the prestigious Chief Scout’s Unsung Heroes Award – and says she’s already got her sights set on becoming the Chief Scout herself one day!

Lottie received the award in recognition of her outstanding kindness, determination and commitment to Scouting when she was a Squirrel and now Lottie has moved up to Beavers, she continues where she left off and is a much-loved member of her Beaver Colony. Lottie is known for helping new members settle in, always being the first to lend a hand, and approaching every challenge with a smile.

“I am very happy to have received the Chief Scout’s Unsung Heroes Award.”

“I had the best day at Gilwell Park; meeting Dwayne Fields, making a new friend and trying crate stacking and axe throwing. I love going to Beavers every week and love the fun activities we do. I hope to be a Scout leader one day… or maybe even the Chief Scout!”

Lottie

Alongside her Scouting achievements, Lottie loves school and enjoys swimming and dancing. She was diagnosed with developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) and underwent corrective surgery, followed by 12 weeks in a full body cast. After this, Lottie had to learn to walk and mobilise again – but has this ever held her back? No way!

Lottie’s leaders describe her as resilient, caring and an incredible role model. Whether proudly carrying the flag at Church Parade or throwing herself into activities big and small, Lottie leads by example.

“She’s a shining example of what it means to be a Scout,” said Donna Musgrove, Team Leader, 1st Rhuddlan Squirrel Drey & Beaver Colony and 1st (St. Michaels) Abergele Beaver Colony. “We are so proud of everything she brings to the group – her energy, her kindness, her determination. Lottie really is an Unsung Hero.”

“Lottie is a wonderful example of how even our youngest members live out the values of Scouting every day. Her resilience, enthusiasm and care for others are inspiring, and it’s fantastic to see her recognised with this national award. We’re incredibly proud of everything she’s achieved already – and we can’t wait to see where her Scouting journey takes her next.”
