As part of our Change Makers | Dyfodol Disglair spotlight series celebrating inspirational young people across the Scouting family, we caught up with Aimee, an Area Youth Lead for Clwyd.Β
Hi Aimee! Tell us a bit about yourself.
Hi! Iβve been part of Scouting since I was five, starting out as a Beaver. I now volunteer with Explorers in Wrexham, as well as in Swansea while Iβm at university.Β
What made you take on the role of Area Youth Lead?
I took on the role to empower young people to share their ideas, take the lead in their sections, and shape their Scouting experience. I really enjoy working with the Clwyd Area Team to make sure everything we do is focused on young people, and that the decisions we make have a positive impact on them.Β
What do you enjoy most about volunteering?
I love working with young people to help them grow and develop new skills and at the same time, Iβm learning and developing too! Volunteering also gives me a chance to give something back to the Scouting community thatβs given me so much.Β
Tell us about a recent highlight.
I was one of the event leadership team for our recent Area Camp, which was a huge project! I helped map out the camping spaces, plan entertainment, coordinate admin and bookings, and even deliver 1,000 ice lollies!Β
You also took part in the World Scout Moot this summer β what was that like?
It was incredible. I joined other 18β25-year-olds from all over the world to explore different cultures and experiences across Portugal. Later, all the participants came together at a main site to continue the adventure. I gained so much confidence and so many skills that Iβve brought home to use in my weekly Scouting.Β
What next?Β
Scouting has given me so many opportunities to grow, travel, and learn and now I want to continue to help others do the same. Iβm looking forward to continuing to create experiences that help young people build confidence, make memories, and realise what theyβre capable of.Β
