Fifty young people and volunteers from across Wales took to the River Severn for a two-day paddling adventure, travelling from Ironbridge to Bewdley.
Organised by the ScoutsCymru National Water Activities Team (SWAT), the event brought together members from Polaris Explorers, 1st Llangollen Scouts, 2nd Ruthin and the newly formed Neptune Explorers for a weekend of adventure, teamwork and new experiences.
Over the two days, participants made their way along the River Severn, putting their paddling skills into practice, building confidence on the water and enjoying the scenery of the Severn Valley.
The event also gave young people from different Scout groups the opportunity to meet, make new friends and share experiences outside their usual weekly activities.
Eryl, Lead Volunteer for the ScoutsCymru National Water Activities Team (SWAT), said:
“It was great to see so many young people out on the water, enjoying the experience and challenging themselves along the way.
“Saturday was particularly challenging because of the low water levels, but everyone absolutely smashed it! Thankfully, there was a lot more water on Sunday, which made for a much more relaxed paddle.
“Events like this are what Scouting is all about – giving young people opportunities to try new things, develop their skills and confidence, and have fun with others from different groups.
“A huge thank you to all our volunteers who helped make the weekend possible. There’s a lot of work that goes into organising an event like this, but seeing everyone enjoying themselves makes it all worthwhile.”
The River Severn Cruise is one example of the opportunities available through Scouting in Wales, where young people can take part in outdoor adventures, learn practical skills and develop confidence through experiences beyond the classroom.
ScoutsCymru supports more than 14,500 young people across Wales, offering opportunities to explore, learn and take on new challenges, supported by thousands of adult volunteers.
