ScoutsCymru is excited to announce an upcoming Youth Leadership Summit in September, giving young people in Wales the opportunity to shape the future of Scouting in Wales. We are seeking applications from Explorers across all areas of Wales to attend this important event.
The summit takes place from Friday 27-Sunday 29 September at Llandysul Paddlers Centre and will be free for attendees, with meals, dormitory accommodation and activities included.
The weekend will inspire, train and support Explorers in leading youth consultation work, offering leadership training, consultation skills development, water activities, and an opportunity to meet other young people from across Wales.
Participation in the summit and follow-up activities will also contribute towards several badges and awards for the Explorers including: Youshape Award, CV List for Chief Scout/King’s Scout Award, Democracy Challenge, Leadership Award, Nights Away Staged Award, Time on the Water Staged Award and Paddle Sports Staged Award.
Selected Explorers will gain the skills to conduct youth-led consultation work in their local groups and communities during October and November 2024.
The weekend will be run by Callum Jones, Wales Youth Lead, as well as adult volunteers and ScoutsCymru staff. The consultation training session and water activities will be led and facilitated by an external organisation.
We are looking for young people who demonstrate leadership potential and a passion for Scouting in Wales. Participants need to be available for the full weekend and also to complete the follow-up activities. October and November will see the Explorers completing consultation activities with young people in the areas they are representing. They need to be able to commit to this element, but there are no set dates, as it will depend on when their individual groups meet. If you’d like any more information on the summit, please email admin@scoutscymru.org.uk and we can answer any further questions you may have.
Young people may apply themselves or, if you know of a young person you think would be perfect, we also welcome nominations.
This is a unique opportunity for our Explorers to make a real impact on the future of Scouting in Wales while developing their own skills and experience.
Please note that travel to and from the event is not included and must be arranged separately. If you feel this might be a barrier to attending, please get in contact on admin@scoutscymru.org.uk
Explorers who would like to be considered are asked to sign up via this form by 4 August 2024. Spaces are limited due to the size of the venue. ScoutsCymru will contact successful applicants in August
