2020 was a difficult year for all of us, and as we enter 2021, we want to continue sharing and celebrating our 2020 Celebration of Scouting Awards winners for all that they did for Scouting in Wales during an extremely turbulent year.

Each of the nominations we received were incredible and we couldn’t be prouder of our amazing volunteers!

So, to spread some positivity we wanted to share our winner’s stories with you!

Next up we’ve got Alan Terrel of 1st Pontywaun who won the Community Impact award.

Described as “an upstanding member of the community”, Alan has been a member of Scouting for 30 years and is said to always have “the best interests of young people at heart”.

He joined Pontywaun Scouts seven years ago to re-establish the group which was struggling. Now, the group is flourishing and plays an integral role within the community.

Alan is presently working with the Tredegar COVID19 task force and is also a trustee for Chloe’s Cupboard – a charity that raises funds for the homeless.

Alan also, with the support of the Scouts, cleared and replanted the Croeso Pontywaun stones and during lockdown used his exercise time to transport watercarriers to the site and watered it every day.

Congratulations to Alan and thank you for your continued hard work and dedication to Scouting in Wales!
