The Celebration of Scouting Awards have taken place for another year and we couldn’t be prouder of all our winners.
In celebration of our winners, we are going to tell you a little bit about the amazing achievements of some of our ScoutsCymru superstars!
First, we would like to introduce you to Heulwen Jenkins from 1st Wenvoe who won the Adult Volunteer Award.
Heulwen was nominated for the award being described as “an inspirational, exceptional leader” and “a leader who other adults want to volunteer with”.
Heulwen took on a Cub Pack low in numbers and lacking direction. In her first term she re-introduced wearing uniform, encouraging the Cubs to have pride in themselves and their Six. She ran the skills challenge badge, teaching them how to iron their neckerchief, sew on a badge and make a bed.
She is also an active member of her local community. She has encouraged the Cubs to look after their village by working with the local Environmental Group, taking part in litter picking and visiting the local church to help with the community cleaning rota.
Heulwen has encouraged the Cubs to explore faith by being a part of the Remembrance Sunday, District Carol and St George’s Day services. She also encouraged and supported the new Sikh SA to organise a visit to Cardiff Gudwara for the Cubs to learn about the ceremonies and origins of Sikhism.
Heulwen has also worked hard to link up with another local Cub Pack and organised their first night away visit which led to brilliant friendships between the two Packs. Her enthusiasm has been key to the successful increase in numbers with 16% more young people and 26% more adult volunteers joining Scouting in 2018-2019.
Heulwen is a great example of a ScoutsCymru Leader and we would like to thank her for the amazing work she continues to do!
