The Celebration of Scouting Awards have taken place for another year and we couldn’t be prouder of all our winners.

In celebration of our winners, we are going to tell you a little bit about the amazing achievements of some of our ScoutsCymru superstars!

Next, we would like to introduce you to the Valerie Kealy who won the Trustee Award.

Valerie is Executive Committee Vice Chair of the 1st Saltney Ferry Scout Group and is heavily involved with the young people at every level, taking time to ensure everyone is learning and having fun.

She has helped the group’s Beavers when they were short of leaders and saved the Cubs from closure when their numbers were at their lowest. She helps to organise camps, pack trailers, does the shopping and supports the leaders in the Group in every way possible.

Valerie has showed her Group loyalty, integrity and trustworthiness in every aspect of her Scouting. Back when she was a part of the Brownies and Guides, Valerie would have loved to get involved with the Scouts but at that time is was not allowed. Now she is an ambassador for getting girls involved at every level, with the group currently having a 60:40 split, girls to boys.

Also known as ‘Auntie Val’, she is always there to offer an ear to listen and a big hug. She has been described as “the glue that brings all elements of the group together”. She runs all section activities and is the first to step up and take control of the situation to ensure that everything runs smoothly. She always goes the extra mile with the group’s young people who show challenging behaviour to ensure they are getting the most out of their Scouting experience and ensures they are treated as fairly as every single other person, she never gives up on anyone.

Valerie is constantly developing everyone’s skills for life, from the Beavers right up to the Leaders. She champions youth led activity and youth shaped Scouting, ensuring the young people are doing what they want to do at the same time as ensuring that they gain irreplaceable skills for later on in life.

Thank you Valerie for your unwavering support and hard work!
