The Celebration of Scouting Awards have taken place for another year and we couldn’t be prouder of all our winners.

In celebration of our winners, we are going to tell you a little bit about the amazing achievements of some of our ScoutsCymru superstars!

Next up, we would like to introduce you to Louisa Shapton, Explorer Scout of Swansea’s Apollo 7 Explorer Scout Unit, recipient of the Young Volunteer Award.

She gained her nomination for the award through being “an inspiration since her early Scouting days”, and always putting “her own needs after the needs of others”.

Since the age of 6, Louisa has been a Scout and now, nearing the age of 18, is transitioning into adult leadership. Through her work as a Young Leader, she has solely refreshed and run a neighbouring Beaver Colony, and participated in National Conference calls on inclusivity, with her even being recognised as the Inclusivity Champion for her Scout Group.

Louisa always goes above and beyond to help her peers and is a pioneer for acceptance and accessibility within the Scouting community. She is passionate about being tolerant of others through encouraging integration and inclusion – mainly through her inspirational saying, “they are all just PEOPLE”.

She also doesn’t hesitate in taking on the role of a mentor in order to help others. She looks for the younger members of both the Beavers and Explorers that struggle, taking them under her wing. Louisa also has contributed to acceptance within Scouting, making sure that everyone, regardless of colour, creed, ability and sexuality is given the chance to be a Scout.

Louisa’s contributions to the young people and adults of Scouting is evident, as her abilities as a trained St John Ambulance First Aider have enabled her to instruct others across the Area from both Beavers and Explorers.

So far, one of her proudest moments was her work with a Beaver who had challenging behaviour and she encouraged him to not have any admonishments for a full half term, much to the delight of his parents.

Louisa is a huge asset to the Scouting community, and we look forward to seeing the bright future ahead of her at ScoutsCymru!
