As we see some further relaxation of the Welsh government restrictions around the COVID-19 pandemic, we are continuing with our plan for how we will be able to return to face-to-face Scouting activities in the future.
We are looking at how we make sure we offer the safest place for young people and fellow volunteers. This includes updating risk assessments and reviewing our programme and activities.
One step could be to take up the offer of the rapid coronavirus testing kits that are now available to collect from local test sites across Wales. While it isn’t compulsory, but it may be something to consider as restrictions ease.
In Wales, people who cannot work from home are encouraged to test themselves regularly with rapid self-tests. Although volunteers aren’t mentioned explicitly, Welsh Government officials have confirmed that this includes people doing voluntary work that cannot be done from home.
What is a Lateral flow Test?
Lateral flow tests use swab samples that indicate whether the virus has been detected.
The tests work in a similar way to a pregnancy test: they show a positive line if the virus is detected in the sample. Some ‘false positives’ tests may happen with the versions that are first available, but this is rare.
How to get tests?
There are collection points all over Wales (link) and you will not need to make an appointment before collection.
You can collect two packs of seven lateral flow self-test kits for home use. It is recommended tests are undertaken twice a week with the results recorded on the UK government portal.
From Monday 26th of April volunteers can order a lateral flow self-test kit to be delivered direct to their home. you can order a test from Get rapid lateral flow COVID-19 tests if you do not have symptoms.
