At the age of 88, Gill Clay has taken to the skies to raise funds for ScoutsCymru by completing a thrilling wing walk packed with loops, high winds, and plenty of spirit.

Gill, a lifelong supporter of Scouting undertook the aerial challenge to celebrate 100 years since the Scouts Council of Wales was formed. Her aim: to raise vital funds to support adventurous opportunities for young people across Wales.

Speaking just moments after landing, Gill said:

“It was absolutely wonderful. I loved every moment. Very exciting! The wind was very strong, I really had to hold on. Volunteers across Wales are doing a fantastic job giving adventure, fun, skills for life, and a code to live by to young people in Wales. Thank you to everyone who has donated to my JustGiving page so far – your support means the world. The JustGiving page will stay open all summer, so there’s still time to donate if you’d like to help.”

Scouting gives young people of all ages the chance to try new activities they may not otherwise have access to—building confidence, resilience, and friendships along the way. From learning practical skills to discovering their voice as young leaders, Scouts helps young people thrive in every area of life.

The funds raised by Gill will go directly towards helping ScoutsCymru continue to provide life-shaping experiences for thousands of young people across Wales via the Youth Adventure Fund.

Rhian Moore, Chief Volunteer Wales, said:
“Gill is a true force of nature and a shining example of what Scouting stands for. Her passion, positivity and generosity are infectious. This fund will help young people across Wales create and lead their own adventures – the perfect legacy from someone who continues to lead by example.”
