The Communications and Engagement Officer will play a key part to support delivery of the Skills for Life strategy and improve the Organisation’s perception, in particular reach, relevance and reputation.
The primary objectives of the role are to plan and deliver communications to internal and external groups, including adult volunteers, young people, communities and political stakeholders that supports delivery of the Skills for Life strategy.
Key duties would include –
- Improve proactive media coverage for Scout groups across Wales and in the local national media in Wales. Identifying ‘good news’ stories from groups throughout Wales and increasing publicity for projects that deliver our Skills for Life Strategy.
- Respond to enquiries from stakeholders including journalists, politicians, key community groups and funding partners.
- Working with the Head of Strategy, and the UK HQ team to provide critical capacity to support communications in unpredictable and sometimes serious situations 24/7.
- Provide media advice and development support to local groups so they share the great things they are doing to support young people in Wales.
- Develop, manage and update content for website so that it is aligned to our narrative, relevant, on brand and uses the right tone of voice.
- Maintain social media accounts and create exciting and relevant content that engages followers and demonstrates the diversity of Scouting activities.
- Ensure the digital communications activity is aligned with the wider communication and engagement plan, content is innovative and engaging and campaigns to support the delivery of ScoutsCymru Strategy.
- Using analytics to monitor, evaluate and report on digital communications activity and inform future activity.
- Support volunteer line managers to communicate with their teams, using the appropriate channel to ensure maximum reach and action required.
Applicants will have excellent written skills, with the ability to convey messages to a range of audiences. As well as that applicants will have strong interpersonal skills, being able to forge long-lasting relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
