It was a proud moment for ScoutsCymru when one of the members of the Youth Leadership Team, Jamie received the King’s Scout Award (KSA) from Chief Scout Dwayne Fields at Summit25 earlier this year.
The King’s Scout Award is the highest level of youth award in Scouts. To complete the award, young people develop and challenge themselves in many ways. People who have achieved the KSA show outstanding communication, organisational and teamwork skills.
Jamie covered a lot of ground as he worked for this award, including going to South Korea for the 25th World Scout Jamboree. Jamie explained how he felt to achieve his award:
“For years I have aspired to complete this award, so to have accomplished it, I am lost for words. I was presented with my KSA at Summit25 and I had the once in a lifetime opportunity to have Dwayne Fields sign it too!
I could not have done it without the support of my Explorer Leaders and the trust of my Cubs. I am beyond proud of myself. In my role in the Youth Leadership Team, I want to inspire, encourage and support other Explorers to achieve their KSA too.”
As well as taking part in many activities as an Explorer, Jamie also volunteers with a Cub pack in Wrexham. Although he is a seasoned Scout, some aspects of the King’s Scout Award were still tricky:
“The most challenging part by far was the presentation, I hate presentations particularly when they are about me. I love the outdoors so the camping for 24 nights over 2 years was completely realistic!”
Working towards the King’s Scout Award is an amazing journey and builds a huge number of skills for life. If you’re an Explorer, talk to your Leader about how to get started on achieving your KSA.
Well done Jamie, you are truly leading the way.
