We are delighted to welcome Kerrie Gemmill as our new Director for ScoutsCymru.
Rhian Moore, Chief Commissioner for Wales explains, “Kerrie has the passion, skills and experience to supercharge the great work staff and volunteers are doing in Wales to grow, be more inclusive and offer an exciting programme and opportunities to young people in Wales.
“Kerrie will lead the staff team, oversee governance and legal requirements of the charity, influence key people and groups in Wales about ScoutsCymru and the support we give young people with skills for life, as well as work to seek out and secure new forms of sustainable funding for Wales.”
She joins us with many years of leadership experience from executive and governance roles in the charity sector including Director of National Operations at Gingerbread, Managing Director at the Intensive Care National Audit and Research Centre and Chair of Trustees at Children of Rwanda, and most recently Executive Director Operations with Traverse an employee-owned social research and public engagement consultancy.
Over the coming months Kerrie will be out and about meeting volunteers, Scout colleagues from around the UK and partners in organisations in Wales to say hello and create amazing relationships that help us all meet the needs of young people in Wales to support them with skills for life for strong and resilient future generations.
Kerrie said, “I am utterly thrilled to be the new Director of ScoutsCymru. I passionately believe in the work of the Scouts movement and our vision to engage and support even more young people across Wales with skills for life, supported by amazing volunteers that deliver an inspiring programme.
I’m really excited to be joining colleagues; volunteers and staff across ScoutsCymru as we continue to deliver against our ambitious 2025 strategy – as we grow, become more inclusive, ensure our decisions are shaped by young people and making a bigger impact in our communities”.
Chris Curtis, Chair of the Board of Trustees added, “Kerrie brings a new level of energy and knowledge to the team. We knew we needed to support the staff team to be in the best position possible to work with volunteers through Wales to introduce and embed the exciting improvements that are coming that will make the journey in Scouts for volunteers easier and less complicated. Through the recruitment process Kerrie demonstrated exceptional leadership and coaching skills, as well as empathy and understanding of what makes Scouting great. I am looking forward to seeing the positive impact for young people through Wales.
