Integrity, respect, care, belief, and co-operation. As Scouts we live by a set of values in our everyday lives. It’s important to us as a programme team that these values are embedded through everything we design and develop. We think about them every time we consider a new partnership, organise an event or create a badge for our young people. That is why we’re delighted to be working with the Mission to Seafarers on a new programme resource for young people of all ages. Not only do we share similar values, but by partnering with them we can also live by our own.

The Mission to Seafarers are a charity who support seafarers all over the world, making sure that they have access to amenities and a comfortable place to rest whilst they are away from their home. They also offer a listening ear to those in need, making sure that their mental and spiritual wellbeing is looked after. We are really looking forward to working with them to bring young people in Wales skills they can use now, and in the future.

A huge part of our programme is about understanding the world and cultures around us as well as having respect for all. The global nature of the Mission means that they work with people from all backgrounds, always offering respectful help and service. By working together, we will be able ensure young people understand global issues that they may not have experienced before. This will help them to become active citizens in the future.

The Mission to Seafarers cares for the wellbeing of those on the waves all over the world, and wellbeing is more important than ever. By working with the Mission, we will be showcasing different ways of caring and making our young people aware of how different situations that they may not have experienced can affect a range of people. We also know that our young people care greatly about our planet and climate. So, to make sure we’re listening, we will be embedding sustainability throughout the resource helping our young people to become the change they want to see in the world.

Any collaboration needs a group of creative and inspiring people to shape it, and that’s where you come in. We’re looking to spend a day at the end of January developing our resources, from Beaver badges to Queen Scout Award challenges. To do that we need our programme planners, wacky researchers and top-notch deliverers to tell us what works well and what interests your young people. It’s a big task and we’re very ambitious but we know there’s people out there in Wales who are up to the challenge!

We’re hosting our programme development day over zoom on the 30th January.
