ScoutsCymru has joined the AdventureSmart UK partnership, reinforcing its commitment to helping young people enjoy the outdoors safely and responsibly.

AdventureSmart encourages everyone heading outdoors to ‘make a good call’ – whether it’s to the mountains, the beach, or their local campsite – by taking a few simple steps to stay safe. ScoutsCymru will be helping to share this message with its members across Wales this summer.

With thousands of Scouts preparing for camps and expeditions, the timing of the partnership couldn’t be better. AdventureSmart UK promotes three simple questions that everyone should ask before setting off:

  1. Am I confident I have the knowledge and skills?
  1. Do I know what the weather will be like?
  1. Do I have the right gear?

These practical prompts align closely with Scouting’s own approach to adventure, encouraging young people to be prepared, think ahead and make smart choices.

Lowri Williams, Wales Youth Lead for ScoutsCymru, said:

“As young people, we want to make the most of every adventure – and that means being ready for whatever comes our way. AdventureSmart is a great reminder that the best experiences start with good planning and knowing how to stay safe. It’s great to see ScoutsCymru sharing these messages.”

ScoutsCymru will be promoting AdventureSmart UK resources to leaders, volunteers and young people. The advice is activity-specific, easy to follow, and trusted by mountain rescue teams, outdoor providers and emergency services across the UK.

AdventureSmart UK is supported by organisations including the RNLI, National Parks, Coastguard, and outdoor tourism bodies. More information and free downloadable resources can be found at www.adventuresmart.uk.
