It’s Careers Week and we want to shine a spotlight on former Scouts who have gone on to have amazing careers.
Scouts have walked on the moon, rowed across oceans, scaled the highest mountains. They have been prime ministers and Oscar winners, authors and inventors, World Cup heroes and scientists.
The opportunities are endless, and futures are bright for our Scouts!

Meet Molly Palmer, a former Scout who is now a station manager at Radio Platform. We caught up to learn a little bit about her time as a Scout and how it helped her in his career.
When were you a Scout?
“I was a member of the Aberdare 2nd Scout group from the age of 11 to 13.”
How did being a Scout help you to where you are now in your career?
“I gained many practical skills from Scouting that I now use daily. These range from working independently to working effectively in a team.
“I was taught how to respect not only myself but others and am able to discipline myself as well as allow myself to have fun. The values that I learnt at my Scout group have moulded me into a more rounded individual.”
How did being a Scout give you skills for life?
“Everything I learnt at Scouts was practical and I gained skills that I use every day. In scouts I learnt how to cook, to create things from scratch and to use my imagination which is something really important to me personally and in my workplace.”
What would be the one piece of advice you’d give to someone going into your field?
“For someone going into my field I would just say to be creative! Sometimes people can be too scared to think creatively but it pays off. You also need to put yourself out there and just be yourself. In the world of radio your personality will shine through and set you aside from other presenters!”
What was your favourite thing about being a Scout?
“My favourite thing about being in Scouts was the variety of skills I learnt. We learn to cook, played sports, did arts and crafts, outdoor activities and so much more. No week was ever the same!
“I loved working towards gaining a new badge. There was nothing more rewarding to me than working hard, having fun and getting a shiny new badge at the end!”
